Eastern Algarve
The region to the east of Faro is generally known as the Eastern Algarve. This region has only started to become known to most UK visitors during the last few years. However, what most Portuguese and Spanish visitors have known for many years is that if you value fantastic beaches and a more relaxed pace of life, you will love the region.
From Tavira you can reach Faro to the west in approx 30 minutes and the Spanish border in the east in about the same time. In between you will find the most glorious beaches and quaint fishing villages, many having changed very little over the past decade.
You can visit Seville in Spain in less than an hour and a half from the border, and the ladies will really enjoy the fantastic shopping.
Within a few minutes traveling from the villa you can visit Cabanas, which has a lovely promenade and the beach stretches for miles. In the opposite direction, Santa Luzia is a very picturesque fishing village (famous for its Octopus) with breathtaking views and excellent bars and restaurants.
Also nearby is Villa Real which sits at the mouth of the river Guardiana. The long waterfront features gardens, a marina and a nautical club and looks across the river to Spain. Nearby is Monte Gordo, which for the more adventurous has a casino, stages Bullfights and has an excellent Indian Restaurant.
There are literally so many places to visit, you will never become bored, visiting Tavira and the Eastern Algarve here in Portugal!
